TECHNIQUE AND ARTISTRY

Ballet

The ballet curriculum is based on a combination of the Vagonova and RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) methods. As students progress, each curriculum level becomes increasingly more complex and intricate.

Our beginner program is designed to teach ballet basics focusing on the vocabulary, proper placement and body awareness. Basic vocabulary and principles will be introduced. Intermediate levels are where we begin to incorporate the basic movements and steps into combinations. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. As in the beginner level classes, there will be an emphasis on technique, poise, rhythm and self-discipline. Principles related to body alignment, muscle control, timing and spatial awareness will be investigated as well. Class will begin with barre work, introducing external rotation of the legs and alignment of the spine, while executing basic ballet steps followed by center floor work and a combination.

The advanced level of our program is an intense focus on technique, combinations, stamina and strength. This class will work on advanced course work with compound combinations at the barre and in the center. Students will move beyond the technical and investigate artistic and musical expression.

Pointe

All pointe classes are designed for students with previous ballet training. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work and across the floor combinations.
